Rechroming

Post by gt-for-now » Mon Nov 25, 2013 3:06 pm

Can anyone recommend a company that does quality rechroming at sensible prices?
I know this kind of work doesn't come cheap, and I don't mind paying good money for a good job, but what I've been quoted so far strikes me as downright silly.
It's a minor job but I want it done well.

Thanks,

Marcel[/quote]

I used this company for my LC and was very please with the results + price:

http://www.ce-design.co.uk/index.php?pageID=21

They are an engineering company that happens to also do chrome , so they insisted in taking all of my small parts apart to polish and chrome them properly. Most chrome firms can't offer this service.

The only bit that I was not happy about was their claim to be able to repair and replate mazac. Don't waste your time trying to get those bits done - they will come back full of holes.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply.
The parts I want to have done are the (pre-aeroflow) c pillar trims, don't know what material these are made off?
They are not actually damaged or heavily pitted but have lost their shine.
Would it be safe to send these to the company you mentioned?

Hi Marcel, I've used London Chroming--http://www.londonchroming.co.uk/contact.htm. Ask for Philip or Mike (Philip is daft as a brush)

Unfortunately they are mazac. Don't waste your money trying to get them rechromed. Buy a repro set off Colin Ginn. He made his repro ones from my original ones. They are very good quality , are chromed and probably cheaper then trying to get your originals chromed - only to be disappointed.

Thanks all, will make up my mind in the coming weeks.
I know of Colin's parts but just like the idea of keeping as much original bits on my car as possible.
I'm sure at least some of you over here will understand.
Keeping cars original is much less in vogue in Ford circles as opposed to the Lotus world, but there are one or two.

Hi Marcel,

Nice to read your comments on retaining original parts. I'm of the same ilk. However, my swivelling vent louvres are now so untidy that I would like to have them re-coated.

Sorry for hi-jacking your post but I think I've seen it posted on here before so does anyone know who does it?

Dale Stephenson was doing the eyeball vents on an exchange basis.
