LEL 437F
Hi All
I have re-joined the register after a few years absence and have started the revival of my MK2 LC. Unfortunately, although the engine was in reasonably good condition before it was taken off the road there has been water ingress into one of the cylinder which has left it highly corroded.
The engine has been sent to Agra engineering in Dundee (very highly recommended) and they have proposed a rebore, slightly larger pistons and a full re-balance/retune. They have estimated a cost of around 6.5K which is a lot steeper than I expected.
Can someone let me know if this figure is about right for this type of work or a recomended supplier that could do it cheaper.
Thanks
Graham

If that is just for the work you have mentioned it is very dear. Get a couple of other quotes.
As well as Steve who Keith mentions where is also CTM who also advertise in the QB magazine. The problem for you is they are both down South.
We do have some members in Scotland , try contacting them to see who they recommend. George Knotman (member id WAF) might be worth contacting for a recommendation.

Re: LEL 437F
Hi Both my engines were done by Agra.
My Cortina on was a good few years ago and is still going well.
My Elan engine was done about 3 years ago and is a great engine- see dyno print.
I didn't ask for a price for the Elan engine ( should have ) as the final bill was around what you were quoted and about £2000 more than I thought it would be!
The Elan engine;
Head skimmed, new valves and valve seats
Block rebored and new pistons
Crank grind- shells etc
new water/oil pump
Carbs cleaned and rebuilt
Balanced during build
Dyno tested

Re: LEL 437F
Hi Guys
Following on from my investigation, the bulk of my engine renovation 5K costs is a new head (too much work done on existing etc etc
) , estimated at £3.5K. Can anyone advise on where I can source one cheaper, or even an older head that can be renovated.
Thanks
Graham

Re: LEL 437F
Old heads do appear on Ebay regularly but it's a risky business buying them unseen as the descriptions vary so much. Give Steve Thomas a call & he'll advise you on costs as he's just done one for a friend of mine locally.Chappers wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2019 1:36 pmHi Guys

Thanks Keith
Steve was very knowledgeable and helpful and I think he is now going to do the head.
